Goose Fair Day

Beardall Fields Goose Fair Day Friday 26th September 2025

We continued our fledging tradition of marking the start of Goose Fair day with our own themed day in school. The aims of the day were:

  • High attendance (98%+)
  • Children to experience something they may have not done before
  • Children to have an understanding of local history and traditions
  • Children to have a positive school experience

During the day children completed:

  • A funfair history lesson (Events beyond living memory) with a class/year group carousel design and make challenge
  • A Goose Fair history lesson (Knowledge about a local tradition and how an event has changed or stayed the same over time)
  • A Goose Fair Challenge (with 17 challenges to complete)
  • A Goose Fair rides and stalls experience

Children also had the option of a special themed Goose Fair Day dinner to celebrate the local tradition that makes our locality famous.

We had a great day across school experiencing all that was on offer and the evidence of a vast range of carousel designs was great to see. Thank you to the children for, as always, being so positive and engaged with the day and we look forward to our next special day soon. Do take a look through our gallery to see a sample of delighted faces and creative carousels!

Mr. Drayton was interviewed by BBC Radio Nottingham as they were so interested in our day. The recording of the interview is here if you would like to listen.

Goose Fair Day - Friday 27th September 2024

Today, to recognise the start of Goose Fair 2024, we celebrated our very own Beardall Fields Goose Fair day. Children throughout school experienced a funfair entertainer (Bonkers) who juggled whilst eating an apple, cycled a unicycle whilst balancing two glasses and turned into a giant just before lunchtime. The children also had time on our field where there were a range of funfair games, rides and activities for them to enjoy.

Children also learnt about the history of Goose Fair, talking about traditions and how things change or stay the same over time. To top this all off, many children enjoyed a special Goose Fair dinner day. All children had their own checklist of the day which they brought home. Do discuss with them what they experienced and learnt.
