MNDA Charity Fun Run

On Wednesday 30th September we held our very own Beardall Fields Charity Fun Run. This coincided with Sir Kevin Sinfield’s final 7 in 7 challenge that took place that very week. We were inspired by Sir Kev’s courage and kindness, raised awareness of the charity he was supporting (MNDA) and asked for sponsorship at the same time. We had a fantastic day and smashed our target of £777.77 and raised £1,748 for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Well done everyone!

Who is Sir Kevin Sinfield?

Sir Kevin Sinfield has been a leading advocate for raising awareness and money for the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MNDA). He began his fundraising efforts in 2020, inspired by his former Leeds Rhinos teammate and close friend, the late Rob Burrow CBE. Sir Kev has since raised over £11 million pounds for a variety of worthy causes linked to MNDA and has provided priceless moments of friendship, inspiration and comfort for thousands. He has done this by completing incredible endurance running feats across the UK. His extraordinary charity work has since earned him a knighthood in the King's Birthday Honours, awarded this year.

In advance of the week children:
Learnt about the work Sir Kevin has done and why he has done it ('I'm just running for a mate')
Explored why some acts of kindness bring whole communities and regions together
Were challenged to lead their own life in the values Sir Kevin has shown, linking to our own school values of curiosity, kindness and courage.

On the week:

Children took part in a touch rugby session and tried to emulate the rugby heroes we had looked at. This was run by either RugbyTots or Next Level Sports.

Children came up with their own ‘7 in 7’ challenges in class. These were fun and very creative!

On the day:

Children ran a 1km course with obstacles provided by ToughRunner. They were cheered on by another class as we tried to replicate the atmosphere of the race Sir Kevin and his team were running. Many families came to support or participate themselves and it was just a great day. There was high energy, super enthusiasm and a palpable sense of pride upon finishing the course.

Well done to the children and to all of the staff, children and families for making it such a memorable experience.
