30th March 2020
I hope you and your families are all keeping well. It has been a very strange couple of weeks for everyone and we really don’t know how long this will continue for. Last week was helped by the lovely weather but we know we really cannot rely on that!
Every Tuesday and Thursday the website will be updated with prompts or ideas for you to be working on. Please check under ‘Children’, ‘Class Pages’. Mr Drayton and Mrs Ottley-Whiles have been really impressed with how much both Mathletics and Reading Eggs have been used. Purple Mash is an excellent resource which covers all areas of the curriculum. Keeping active is crucial for everyone’s wellbeing, Joe Wicks has been great for this, there is also Next Level Sports who are doing challenges for the children. If you have any problem with logins etc please email the office; firstname.lastname@example.org.
Although online learning is important, please do not underestimate the importance of just reading daily to improve fluency. With increased fluency children will be able to understand what they are reading more; once this happens children will begin to enjoy more books and will want to read more widely, increasing their knowledge. Ten minutes a day is all it takes, it really is a no-brainer. For younger children, reading a story to your child at bedtime, or any other time of the day, has a massive impact on their love of books in the longer term, and will increase their vocabulary.
Critical Workers - PLEASE NOTE THIS PROVISION SHOULD NOT BE USED IF A PARENT IS WORKING FROM HOME.
Although school closed last week for pupils, we have been asked to remain open for critical workers where there is no one working from home who can look after them.
Staff are on a rota to ensure provision is provided for these children and will continue do so throughout the coming weeks including over the Easter holidays. However, school will be closed for ALL pupils on Good Friday and Bank Holiday Monday. Accessing this provision should be booked by contacting myself on: email@example.com. Please ensure you have booked for Easter by midweek to enable rotas to drawn up.
Children accessing this provision will need to bring their own lunch as the school kitchen is now closed.
Free School Meals
Families who are in receipt of benefits who entitled to Free School Meals have been having a packed lunch provided by school, available for collection from the kitchen. This will continue for the rest of this week. After Easter, we are currently looking into providing e-vouchers for families who are entitled to FSM instead of the packed lunches. We will keep you posted if and when we can get this up and running. Please note this is only for those in receipt of benefits.
Please keep a check on the website for any updates.
I will continue with a weekly update for you all. In the meantime, take care and I wish you all the best during these challenging times.
